Direct Shipper Vs Freight Broker

Not sure what the difference between a direct shipper and a freight broker are? Here is how Evotrux defines them.

  • Direct Shipper: Owns the goods being shipped. Manufacturer, retailer, distributor, etc.

  • Freight Broker: An intermediary between shippers and carriers that does not own the freight.

Direct Shipper: A direct shipper, referred to simply as a "shipper" on Evotrux, is a company or individual that works for a company that needs to transport goods from one location to another. This could be a manufacturer, retailer, distributor, or any entity that produces or owns goods and needs to get them to their intended destination. Direct shippers are the owners of the freight.

Shippers typically hire carriers (trucking companies) and/or freight brokers to move their goods.

Freight Broker: A freight broker is a third-party intermediary that acts as a middleman between shippers and carriers. Freight brokers do not own the goods being shipped or the transportation equipment. Instead, they hire carriers to facilitate the transportation process on behalf of shippers.

On Evotrux, Shippers post loads while freight brokers register as carriers and submit quotes to book loads from direct shippers.
